Try Wikipedia, "List of RAF squadron codes".

Re: model of aircraft

Matthias

This is a Hurricane IIc most likely from 229 Squadron coded HB-P. (code HD only used by bomber squadrons and none of them operated Hurricanes)
Any further details known such as crash date perhaps?

Cheers
Stig

Re: model of aircraft

I feel that with the just visible watermark, this is another eBay sale so unlikely there are any further details from Matthias (otherwise he would have known it was a Hurricane!)

I did, but the squadrons listed for HD were bomber squadrons.

Thank you Stig.

Re: model of aircraft

Not a Mk.IIC but a IIA or perhaps a IIB. The four openings for the Brownings can be seen - the large outer openings are too far outboard, being aligned with the roundel. The possibly aer the outer position of the guns for a Mk.IIB - I can't be sure. There appears to have been some distortion of the centre-section making the usual gun position appear too far inboard.

Re: model of aircraft

Hello,

many thanks for your help to all.
This photo is in my collection.
Sorry, i have now informations about crash date, place or other details.
Only this one:
The photo was recorded from a german DAK soldier in north africa.

Hurrican was my own tip, but i was uncertain.

I´m very glad for your help and come return with more photo material. Promised :-)

Ok, i notice now IIA or IIB, correct? ...

Regards
Matthias
