Re: Major Hans ‘Assi’ Hahn Award Certificate
Guys, am a bit dumb, but it seems that most of the items selling came from a Museum that is closing its doors, is that correct? They are selling ALL the collection including an amazing Spitfire Cockpit on Lot 460? And there are hundreds of items from shot down machines....a FULL Museum indeed is being sold...
I CAN NOT comprehend how such a Museum, in England, the Land of the Royal Air Force with so many Charity Funds here and there for a lot of things...HOW this Museum was not helped to not close its doors??????? Those ITEMS should NOT be sold and get away from England (to where they do belong in my humble opinion). Really a pitty to see that huuuge collection sellling and from a MUSEUM!!!! |

Re: Major Hans ‘Assi’ Hahn Award Certificate
I know that there is a Millionaire in England, Lord Something, that owns a huge Collection of VC's....Hope, really hope he will acquire the FULL Lot of this Museum and keep those items in England, where they belong to, and maybe he opens another RAF Museum, hugest and better than this one which closed its doors....Really a pitty to see all those items being sold....

Re: Major Hans ‘Assi’ Hahn Award Certificate
Hi Adriano,
I spoke to Lord Ashcroft's representatives last year regarding this collection. I also felt that it should be kept together. His representative told me that his interests only extended to medal groups and that he had no interest in acquiring this collection. Fingers crossed some of it ends up on public display for future generations. All the best Gerry |

Re: Major Hans ‘Assi’ Hahn Award Certificate
Gerry,
This is indeed Lord Ashcroft....I had forgotten his name, but not his deeds in preserving some part or your History (RAF related too). Let's hope the RAF Heritage Fund or some other Fund will be able to purchase the full Museum and keep it there. During the writing of the late Wing Commander Gomm's biography, a good friend of mine told me the story of the Flight Engineer, the sole survivor of ED998's machine, whose medals were sold at auction. This friend of mine acquired the Medals and returned them to the Family, because he was sure this was the right thing to do. Maybe, this spirit still prevails, maybe not...but it really breakes my heart to see a Museum being sold, specially an Aviation related. Thank you Gerry...and all the best. A. |

Re: Major Hans ‘Assi’ Hahn Award Certificate
Surprised to see that single item from the 'Assi' Hahn collection up for sale. I would have thought the complete collection would have been kept together...

John,
Perhaps this was just testing the waters. |
