Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)

Hello,

the 26th june 1943,Two Yak-7 of the 168th IAP, which had taken off at 8:10 p.m. for a reconnaissance mission, did not return.

At 7:31 p.m. German time or 8:31 p.m. Soviet time, 12 km SSE (54181 @2000m) from Douminitchi at an altitude of 2500 m, Ltn. Heinrich Höfemeier of 3/JG51 claims his 74th victory against a Lagg-3. It is in all likelihood Second Lieutenant Kvarenkov's Yak-7. because s-ltn Kvarenkov Viktor loukianovich (1923) who was taken prisoner by the Germans in Sikejewa which is SW of Douminitchi and the combat attitude is compatible with a parachute jump.

At 7:33 p.m. German time, or 8:33 p.m. Soviet time, 12 km SSW of Douminitchi at an altitude of 500 m, the Obfhr. Bendikt Haupt of 3/JG51 claims his third victory against a Lagg-3, in all likelihood it is Ltn Klimov.

Laurent

Can you please advise the date?
The docs you provide are very unclear and Höfemeier never claimed anything like 74 victories (as
per Johannes Mathews)

Cheers
Stig

Hello, Stig Jarlevik

The post still with 80 years of callout so the date is June 26, 1943. I corrected this omission, thank you for your remark

Concerning Heinrich Hoffemeier all sources indicate 96 victories

http://www.century-of-flight.freeola...W2/aces2/2.htm

thanks again for your remarjks

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)

Thanks Laurent

If you look at the claim list you just provided, there is an incredible jump from 25 to 62 and only including
two ? in between.

Johannes has read the microfilms for so long that if any claims are not there during the "good years",
they most probably never existed.

Cheers
Stig

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)

Hi All,

Between late 1941 and end July 1942 1./JG 51 had listed by date and time some 90 claims in the Ubersicht listings for which there are no known names. Some can be filled in for von Fassong and Laskowski because various confirmation slips have been published, but of the 85 plus claims remaining with unknown names most went to Hofemeier who was in 1 Staffel to early 1943? and Thiel, so there is no reason to doubt the 96 total for Hofemeier as 28 of his claims are probably during this period (No 26 to 55 inclusive, excluding a Pe 2 on 3 June 42.) All explained in the relevant Prien volume.

Regards

Russell
