Missing Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer block?

Gents,

I was researching Emil Lang's Fw 190 A-8 in which he was shot down on September 3, 1944, and noticed that all sources indicate that his aircraft "grün 1's" werknummer was 171240. However, this number does not fit into known / published A-8 werknummerserien, but falls between 171151-171200 and 171450-171750. Thus there should(?) technically be a block of unknown size between these two series that would have been built by Focke-Wulf (Cottbus) sometime between June and August.

Therefore:
1) Did a weknummer block exist withing the 171201-171449? Are there other known losses within this group?
2) If so, what is its precise range and numbers and what is the source of this information?
3) Is it possible that the original transcrition of Lang's loss was incorrectly noted in period documents recording the event? Can the original documents be consulted to confirm what was actually noted?
4) If 3) is correct, what possible werknummer could his aircraft have worn?

Any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Cheers,

David

Re: Missing Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer block?

Hello David,

Emil Lang was shot down in a Fw 190 A-5, serial 150.1240. Source ist WASt-report.

Summarische Verlustmeldungen for II./JG 26 also list a Fw 190 A-5 lost in September 1944 due to enemy action.

HTH

Re: Missing Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer block?

I noted that the NVM reports Wn 501240, interpreted as 171240/171740, Fw190A 1240 is reported in Cravant in dec.42

Just checked it, the NVM says literally:

Fw 190 A-5

WNr. 150.1240

Re: Missing Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer block?

Gents,

Many thanks for the information and clarification on Lang's kite. Interesting that he was flying an older A-5 at this late date. He must have been quite attached to it though as is known, its undercarriage problems on that day directly lead to his demised.

By the way, are there any known images of this aircraft?

Again, many thanks,

David
