Re: Help ID RAF Grid Reference S.1676

Chris, were you taking images of the former KG 40 bases down here to insert (Then and Now style) on the forthcoming book? THAT would be great indeed to see what is still there at Bordeaux-Mérignac and the other Fw 200 bases. Sadly I do not know yet this side of France, neither Toulouse where our friend Gilles do lives....it is on the wish list to go....

A.

Re: Help ID RAF Grid Reference S.1676

Uou! Nice Chris. You are now almost Gille's neighbour then....hope you will be able to see one each other more times.
Pitty the KG 40 will not have the "Then and Now" images...that would be great to see what was left of the former base and accomodations used by those Seefliegers. I remember a Chateau that was used by KG 40 airmen that maybe still exist.
It must be a lovely and warmer territory, which I sadly do not know yet....and one can not "make" (visit) France in just one holidays....impossible.

Gilles is over 3 hours away and don't forget that in 1943 and 1944, these airfields were heavily bombed

Re: Help ID RAF Grid Reference S.1676

Zoran,

Thank you for pointing out the Grid qS, which is a bit to the North of where the combat took place and is mentioned on the Squadron ORB, which is 25 miles East of Ramsgate (somewhere over the Channel between Dunkirk and De Panne; or if on a different angle, somewhere between Blankenberge and Knokke).

However it is good to know that other grids that existed are not shown onto the site...so it is possible that wS may have existed, since it matches the reported place of combat on the Combat Reports and ORB.

Again my deepest gratitude for your kind help.

Most humbly yours,

A.
