Need help to identify B-17

Good night to all!
I need help of B-17 specialists to identify the Bomber Group, Bomber Squadron of a B-17 F
The codes I identify on a picture are M*KX and part of the serial number visible is 23051
I tried to find on the net anything about it but did not find
What I achieved is
M-ZY, B-17 F serial 42-30518 of 96BG, 413BS lost on 4 Jan 1944. But on the picture is clearly visible the KX-M and I did not find to which Bomber Group it was.
Glad to all

Adriano

Re: Need help to identify B-17

It's probably B-17F-DL s/n 42-3051, assigned to 366 BS/305 BG, with codes KY-M, according to Roger Freeman. How clearly does that "X" look in your photo - might it actually be a Y?

Re: Need help to identify B-17

Fsbofk and Mike,
Thanks to both of you! Yes, I think that the B-17 is 42-3051. I searched on a German site that claims to have ALL identities of Fortresses and got no answer...Yes, the picture does not show the X properly. It was a "guessing" and certainly can be a Y. It is more probable that it flew with 8th AF than with 9th.
Thanks to both of you! I will try now to find out it is fate.
Yours very sincere and friendly
Adriano

Exclamation Re: Need help to identify B-17-Attack "raid on Huls"

Hello all,
I also have a photo on which the B-17F (KY*M) is to be seen during bomb action. It was the attack "Raid on huls" on 22.06.1943 which primary target was the "Rubber plant Hüls", where i work as a technician, today.

On the Page of the 384th Bomb Group is the 42-3051 descriped with the SC: BK*C. And the start date was the 19.09.1943 (3 months after the raid on huls!). So what's the about the time before the entry at the 384th Bomb Group ? Has anyone detail informations or a source in the web?

I require further information about this B-17 and generally about the attack, because I have from the 42-3051 (KY*M) no information before entry at the 384th Bomb Group . How about Crew, Misson datas, etc.?

Who can help me?

Thank you very much!
I hope, the "secret" of the 42-3051 can be solved...

with friendly regards
Michael

Re: Need help to identify B-17

Good morning Check Six !

42-3051 was added to AAF inventory on 1st Jan. 1943 and arrived 18th March 1943 overseas.

The a/c gained 305th BG on 31st May 1943. From 27th July to 18th August 1943, the a/c was at teh Air force Service Command.

On 19th september 1943, 42-3051 was assigned to 384th BG.

It seems, that the a/c was during the Hüls raid on 22nd June 1943 assigned to 305th BG (KY*M).

All the best
