BF 109 El Adem Libya 1941

Hi,

I have been searching for additional photo to the plane in Falcon's Messerschmitt Bf 109 Hangar as photo 4962

https://me109.info/display.php?a=e&l=en&fid=4962

Photo 12197 has been added as additional information:

https://me109.info/web.php?a=e&l=en&n=ua&f=1263

Are these the same aircraft?

Has anyone an identification of the aircraft?

Regards

Rick

The problem with North Africa, there were loads of ac left where they came down or on airfield. I am looking at one photo now with 5 Bf 109s on their bellies in a line, another with 8. As Ouidjat says, you are unlikely to get more info than that

Hi Chris, I didn't say I haven't more info.

Most likely December 1941, around Christmas time according one photo's back comment.

Re: BF 109 El Adem Libya 1941

Thanks for the reply ouidjat,

I have some doubt regarding if these aircraft are the same because of the missing white theatre stripe on the port side of the aircraft. This can be seen near the elbow of the soldier.

Also the curl at the top of the prop looks to be sharper than in the photo of the port side.

I have seen a photo of poor quality of the port side that shows no theatre stripe also. This photo was sourced out of New Zealand but I have had no luck tracing the original yet.

One must ask, what are the chances that these aircraft are different when located in the same area?

Also the soldier is my father and I have been looking into this aircraft for some 32 years so far.

Regards

Rick

OK Rick,
I understand now why you are questioning
.
Yes, it's the same machine and yes the white band isn't completely painted on both sides.
On your father's side it's just partially painted as attested by other pics and on the other side there is nothing except a little part on top fuselage.
I do remember perfectly there was something to do with New Zealand
And, normally we already discussed about that in the old LEMB forum or in LRG; but LEMB most probably ... Am I right ?

Regards,
Franck.

Re: BF 109 El Adem Libya 1941

Frank,

You are correct, it was LEMB and you might also have seen my post here back in 2006.

My original account lost most of the permissions when I changed my email last year and I have not been able to contact an administrator to correct it, hence the new logon.

Your confirmation that it is the same aircraft is much appreciated.

It was just pure luck that I opened my photo at Falcon's to see the additional information as I had not viewed it for some years.

Your unit information tires in with information from 2006, especially that from F19gladiator.

Missing from my photo is the white cowling behind the prop spinner, which will help.

Now starts again, the long stalking of the internet for more photos....

Regards

Rick

Re: BF 109 El Adem Libya 1941

Thanks for your offer Franck,

I seam to be hitting permissions denied trying to contact you.

let me know if nothing comes through. I have also updated my details and allowed contacts to me which might help from your side.

5 years since LEMB stopped? Why does time march quicker as you get older.

I thought that was a very good site.

Also 5 years since I retired next month, seems like yesterday.

Rick

Rick

You are still under scrutiny by our vigilant moderators.
I think you need five posts to validate you for sending PMs to other members.

So by answering this one, you hopefully will qualify.

Cheers
Stig
