Last unidentified pilot within JG 2.

Morning Guys

These are the details of the last unidentified claimant within JG2. Name reads something like Unteroffizier "Areche"

10th April 1944 1705 hrs 12./JG 2 Mosquito 4000 metres altitude.

Looking please for any details of "Areche" or whoever he is. Mosquitos were a rarity, so there should be documents somewhere.

Grateful as always for any information.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Last unidentified pilot within JG 2.

Thanks Nick

I can't quite see Eiserle, but the forename is shortened and must begin "J" compared to Josef Wurmheller and JG 2. The name does look like it ends "erle" though, so could be Eiserle. Certainly does not begin B,F,H,I,L,M,N,S,T,U or W.

Thanks again

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

Eiserle is not correct.
JFV Vol. 13/V says
10.04.44 12./JG 26 Uffz Hermann Ayerle Mosquito 17.05 PlQu. 05 Ost/TL-6.

Regards
Leo

Re: Last unidentified pilot within JG 2.

Hi Leo

That looks about right. The forename is given in short, only first four letters used, and whereas it looked to begin "J" I could see no "H" within it, but does I see now end in "m."
Mt first reading was "Argola" then "Areche" so Hermann Ayerle would be correct 99% sure.

So thanks Guys for your input, got there in the end. Any idea of his subsequent fate and general history?

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Last unidentified pilot within JG 2.

The mikrofilms being incorrect over unit through me. He was born on 8th May 1922 and made one other claim on 24th April 1944, again with 12./JG 26. Then was himself shot down on 24th June 1944, 17th July 1944 and 25th September 1944. Subsequent fate unknown.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Last unidentified pilot within JG 2.

Hi Johannes and others

Turns out I had the Ayerle reference in my database as well but hadn't spotted what is ultimately a kind of duplication.

For interest, the Mosquito was LR424 of 540 sqn. F/O Frederick Vernon Legon KIA
