Ofw Hans Heitmann - .4/JG 26 pilot WIA on 6th March 1944
Good night to all!
Do need more details about the loss ( time and place ) of Obfw Hans Heitmann from .4/JG 26, shot down near Osnabrück on the 6th March 1944, most probably by P-47 D of 56th FG. Any aditional information about the pilot would be welcomed. Yours Adriano Baumgartner |

Re: Ofw Hans Heitmann - .4/JG 26 pilot WIA on 6th March 1944
Adriano, Both the JG26 War diaries and Target Berlin gives that Heitmann was seriously wounded in the right arm in combat and baled out at 1430hrs. at Osnabruck/Haste. The War Diaries shows he was flying Fw190A-7 642978 black9 and that he was shot down by P-47's of 356FG. The last mention of him is the entry for 29th March 1944 showing that with eleven victories he was awarded the DKiG,

Re: Ofw Hans Heitmann - .4/JG 26 pilot WIA on 6th March 1944
Hello Brian and Christian.
Many thanks for the additional information about the aircraft Heitmann was flying on 6th March 1944. BRIAN: I was trying to match the claim submitted by Fred J Christensen Jr of 56th FG that claimed a Fw 190 N of Dummer Lake around 12:45hs. I thought that his claim could be Heitmann since he was wounded around Osnabrück. This is the main reason I asked more information about this airman. Many thanks for pointing out the 356th FG claim against Heitmann. Will continue my searchs through the files. Yours very sincerely and thanks again for the answers. Adriano |
