This cannot be a typo, as a typist would hit next key.
In regard of the claim, British report would be in feet, so I presume this was transcribed from other sources, and may repeat the same error. Altitude of 500 m or 1500 ft is pretty low, again could be an error there. If not, then the aircraft must have been shot down elsewhere by someone else. Does anyone know, where the crew landed?
