JG26's 109 F's that went to Spain

Hi,

Is there a list of the 15 or so Bf109F's that went to Spain and were ex JG26 aircraft?

What were their Werk Nr's and who had previously flown them ?

Do any of them still survive , even in part?

Thanks

Alex

Re: JG26's 109 F's that went to Spain

Hi Alex
Never heard before that the model F were all ex JG 26. May I ask what your source is?

The Avions Hors Serie 5 says they were 14 with s/n 6-132 to 6-145
reserialled C.10.132 and up and still later C4F-132 and up
WNr listed are 12638,7237,7341,7486,8172,12906,13106,13110,13210, 13329,8328,8205,7539,10062

Seems some went straight to their Fighter School at Moron and others to combat units.
Few photographs in the book but C4F-145 was coded 45-51 having had a ground loop

Cheers
Stig

Re: JG26's 109 F's that went to Spain

Hallo again Alex

The Avions book was written by Jaun Arraez Cerda in 1997, BUT there has also been some articles by a guy named Gonzalo Avia Cruz, first in Flugzeug 5/96 and later in Air Enthusiast 87 (May/June 2000). There the story is slightly different with regard to the Wnr and also differes between themselves.

In Flugzeug the WNr is the same as in my list, EXCEPT that he states 7237 is in fact 7327. He maintains that in his later AE listing, so Avions might well be a misprint...
In Flugzeug he specifies that after some "further" research he has come to the conclusion that 6-145 must be WNr 10062. This is however changed in his AE article where he lists the same airframe as WNr 7539. As far as I can see he just makes the statement without any comments.

In the Flugzeug article he is NOT certain about 6-144 and lists this one as EITHER Wnr 5789 OR 7539 while in AE he seems certain that WNr 5789 is the correct one. Why he has finally arrived to the following list is not stated, but I list the WNr once again as they were in the year 2000, since that is the last listing I have!
12638,7327,7341,7486,8172,12906,13106,13110,13210, 13329,8328,8205,5789.7539.

Chrystal clear Alex?

Cheers
Stig

Re: JG26's 109 F's that went to Spain

Hello Stig,

What a minefield .

The only source for the serial numbers that I have is "Condor" and AE no 87 which I will now look into and see what is there.

As for source for JG26 that came from "The Augsburg Eagle a documemtary history of the Messerschmitt Bf109" by William Green Page 89.

"For example 15 ex-JG26 Bf109F-4s were delivered to Spain in 1942 for service with the 25 Grupo of the 23 Regimiento. The Bf109F fighters were used primarily at Alcalá de Henares for the conversion of Spanish pilots bound for Russia, and in October 1942, the Escuadron Azul,or 15.(Span)/JG51, converted from the Bf109E-7s to Bf109F-4s while operational on the Eastern Front flying these until July 1943."

Thank you for your replies

Alex

Author Arraez always make mistake in their books about c/n; not only with Bf109F but also with other types.
Rely on Gonzalo Avila articles.

By the way not a single JG26 fighter came to Spain. Most were repaired machines from Russia. JG54 and JG51 basically.

Best regards
Francisco
