Mike
I contacted David Aiken he said "The added caption info on Sprankle was actually written by the FLIGHT JOURNAL editor....and IIRC the FlyPast material came via the Pacific Aviation Museum, Hawaii. The accident report says "twenty four January nineteen forty-two, about fourteen twenty at Koolau range Oahu TH, Kenneth W Sprankle First Lieutenant Regular Army in P Forty, one dash three two nine seven, engine seventeen ten thirty three number forty one dash three five four eight Wheeler Field Oahu TH, apparently failed to recover from inverted spin aircraft completely wrecked, pilot fatal, weather scattered, parachute not used, no failure of material or equipomenrt involved, signed Tinker" |
