Re: JG-52 insignia confirmation ... 7/JG52 & 8/JG52

Hello Ed

Thank you for your extended great details describing 7./JG-52 insignia ...
BLACK SHIELD (in white outline) with RED STAR in Ctr of black shield field n Sickle cracking red star (with shattered fragments from sickle strike).

Ironically - My wife just told me ...
She ordered this SAME BOOK for my birthday
... So - she just now gave me this same book by Barry Ketley as an early birthday present. I see the image for 7./JG-52 as you described it.

As for 8./JG-52 ...
See my above latest post n attached photo.
UNFORTUNATELY - this is the only photo for this insignia I can find for 8./JG-52. Hoping someone will come through with BETTER EXAMPLE with clarity as to what the "Tyrolean Eagle" insignia for 8./JG-52 looks like.

Thank you again for your reply
Ray S.

Re: JG-52 insignia confirmation ... 7/JG52 & 8/JG52

That may be a South Tyrolean eagle... but has got absolutely nothing to do with 8./JG 52. It was sported on some of the 5./JG 51 aircraft in the autumn of 1940.

If you are so much interested in JG 52, perhaps you might start your quest with John Weal's book Jagdgeschwader 52: The Experten, where you can find most of the emblems, and then purchase some more books and broaden your knowledge on the subject even further.

Sidney

Thank you for your reply posting that you believe "absolutely" that 8./JG-52 did not use "Tyrolean Eagle" insignia ... and ... that likely is 5./JG-51 insignia instead.

But what about photo of Hermann Segatz aircraft for 8./JG-52 ...
As shown in my earlier post. Is this invalid ??

Ray,

You are welcome.

That I believe is a typo - should have been just 8./JG 5.

Sinisa

Re: JG-52 insignia confirmation ... 7/JG52 & 8/JG52

Sidney (Sinisa)

Thank you for your clarification posting that there might be type-o ...

Will check into the insignia for 8./JG-5 (instead of 8./JG-52) for "Tyrolean Eagle" insignia for Hermann Segatz ... and or ... whether the "Tyrolean Eagle" insignia is for 8./JG-5 or 8./JG-52.

Always an interesting adventure into history

Thanks again

Hi,

Segatz was also member of 5./JG51 during BoB. I have a photo showing part of this "Adler" emblem below the cockpit.

Regards

Robert

Ray, there should be no misunderstanding about my post - the "Tyrolean Eagle" might have been the 5./JG 51 emblem for a short-while (i.e., in the autumn of 1940), but later on, it was neither 8./JG 5 nor (even less so) 8./JG 52 emblem - it was merely Hptm. Segatz personal emblem, which he carried over with him to all units, where he served after JG 51, that is I believe JG 1 and JG 5.

The 8./JG 52 emblem has not been found yet, perhaps it never existed in the first place. The only III./JG 52 Staffel emblem that I can think of was the 9./JG 52 "Karaya" emblem.

Will disengage at this point.

Regards,
Sinisa

Re: JG-52 insignia confirmation ... 7/JG52 & 8/JG52

Sidney

Do you have an image for the insignia of 5./JG-5 sporting the "Tyrolean Eagle" insignia in 1940s ??? ... as you noted in your earlier post.

Reason I ask ...
Checking the Barry Ketley book mentioned previously - this book does not show the "Tyrolean Eagle" insignia for 5./JG-5 either ... but does not mean there aren't other reference sources that might show this insignia use and respective units.

Always interesting getting input from folks ...
Thank you again for your efforts to help on this topic.

Re: JG-52 insignia confirmation ... 7/JG52 & 8/JG52

Ray,

You can find most of his "Tyrolean Eagles" in Erik Mombeeck's Luftwaffe Gallery No.4, on page 15.

You can also find some photos of this emblem from the Battle of Britain period in Prien, Stemmer and others Die Jagdfliegerverbände der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934 bis 1945, Teil 4/II.

Regards,
Sinisa
