Staffel Schwarm
I was reading A Higher Call, a book about the Franz Stigler-Charlie Brown incident and have become slightly confused over one matter.
Stigler's aircraft is referred to as "White 12" because he was in White Squadron (or Staffel) and the number on the side of his fuselage was a big white 12. Would he have been referred to as "White 12" over the RT during combat, or did the Luftwaffe have colour coded sections like the RAF where one would be referred to as something like "Red Leader" or "Blue 2" according to which section one was in? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks |
