Robert (Robbie) Colin Campbell-Peat.
re :Robert (Robbie) Colin Campbell-Peat. Have been asked by a Canadian veteren if I might uncover any details on the above individual who fought in nightfighters in the last war. No other clues to go on I'm afraid... not even clear whether Campbell Peat was pilot or observer/navrad.

Re: Robert (Robbie) Colin Campbell-Peat.
I do not find him in my database of Commonwealth claims. Not as Campbell, or Campbell-Peat, or as Peat.

Re: Robert (Robbie) Colin Campbell-Peat.
THE FOLLOWING WAS COMMISSIONED DURINGTHE WAR:
ROYAL .AIR FORCE VOLUNTEER RESERVE. GENERAL DUTIES BRANCH. As Pit. Offs. on prob. (emergency): —Appointment to commission. Sgt. 1171763 Robert CAMPBELL-PEAT (182723). 4th July 1944 The last mention of him in the London Gazzette I can find is 1950. no use of the second name Colin however, is this a certain? Can't find him in England and Wales birth records but might be Scottish. Search the LG using their search engine and his serial number: http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/Adv...GeoType=London I find little mention of his surname even on Ancestry.com |

Re: Robert (Robbie) Colin Campbell-Peat.
Thank you Mr Burke for your information. Now we have a service number I can make some progress. Not certain about the second name of Colin - that's all the information I was given. Anyway, I dig about some more and see what crops up. If anyone else reading finds any more - do please post to let us know. Your help is appreciated fellas.

Re: Robert (Robbie) Colin Campbell-Peat.
Greetings,
My uncle was a pilot with the RAAF, and based at RAF Manby, Lincolnshire, during 1944 and 1945. I am currently transferring the text of uncle's WW2 letters to electronic form. Robbie Campbell-Peat and uncle were room-mates at Manby from March 1944, and he is mentioned in many of the letters, and also wrote a few to my grand parents. He seems quite a character. Robbie was born in Scotland, but I believe was living in South Africa prior to WW2. There is also mention of his house in London being destroyed by a buzz bomb in August 1944. We have a 21st Birthday card for the uncle, signed by Robbie and his wife Lyn on 16 December 1944. Thats where my progress is at right now - uncle was stationed at Manby until mid 1945, so there may be more on Robbie. As expected, there is much detail on their off duty exploits, but not on operational things. Regards, Dave D Brisbane Australia |
