Airstrip in Calcutta ?
Hi
Does any body have any information on this Airstrip in Calcutta, West Bengal India. There are hardly any remains of this Airstrip but from google maps one can see some parts of it. I think it's the Alipore airfield just south of the river; the other Calcutta fields were used by RAF / IAF were Kalyanpur, Maidan (Red Road), Dum Dum (also AAF), Bally, Baigachi, and Kanchrapara (also AAF).
Alipore was used by 16 RAF squadrons at various times, plus some AAF. Nick |
