Re: Georgi Zakharov

Good morning Kirill,

does the book by Bykov provide a complete Zakharov victory list ?

Cheers,

Michael

Re: Georgi Zakharov

Good day Michael,
Mikhail Yuryevich Bykov did not say (if I'm not mistaken) on the completeness of the list of claims...
Officially General Zakharov G. N. - 10 claims in WW2 (personally+in the group).
The problem is that in the documents of the 303 IAD and regiments of the division combat mission "management division" not specified (they flew apparently not officially).
Although indirectly, the flights are confirmed: the journal 18 GIAP mentions the battle 16.10.1944 in 17.28-18.26 - 12 Yak-3 vs 6 FW-190, where by Navigator 303 IAD Ivan Zamorin shot down FW-190. The group of the Yak-3 was under the control of major Semyon Sibirin (squadron commander 18 GIAP).
Ivan Zamorin on the memoirs of Georgy Zakharov flew with him in a pair.

I think that the claims of Georgy Zakharov was indicated in his logbook. But if it's survived, then belongs to relatives of General.

regards,
Kirill

Re: Georgi Zakharov

Hello Kirill,

let's hope for the best.
Were Zakharov and Galland the only aces who flew combat missions and scored kills after being promoted to Generals ?

Michael,
General Baranchuk Konstantin Gavrilovich (12 GIAD) - 32 combat missions (30 as general-major), not less than 6 group fights, but no claims. Commanded in the air.

Re: Georgi Zakharov

Lieutenant-General Kravchenko Grigory Panteleevich often took part in battles and was killed in aerial combat on February 23, 1943. Claims are not known, but apparently they were.

Re: Georgi Zakharov

Major-General (since 02.1944) Valentin Petrovich Uhov - there are claims 16.09.1944 (FW-189 in group), 15.10.1944 (FW-190 personally).
There were many more fighter generals flying on combat missions.

Re: Georgi Zakharov

I wonder who has more kills as General, Zakharov or Galland. For both I find a maximum score of 10 after promotion.
