Can anyone tell me the type of FW190 flown by Ofw Josef Kern when he was shot down in September 1943?

Also I note in AH that Hap Kennedy in a Spitfire shot down and killed Hptmn Hans-Jobst Hauenschild of II/SKG10 (5 victories with JG2/ZG2) on 10 September 1943 south of Eboli, but I believe he died on 18 October 1943.... can anyone confirm this?

Thanks Chris. I can't understand the frequent mentions of his commanding the gruppe until 18.10.1943 unless that's then his successor took over. I note he was a successful pilot with 5-6 victories, 3 of these scored in 1940 with JG2 and 2 more with ZG2 in North Africa in 1942. Aces High attribute his loss to FL "Hap" Kennedy in a Spitfire IX of 93 Squadron.

18 October was the date of the renaming of II./SKG 10 Gruppen as II./SG 4, so maybe Hauenschild was simply the last known Kommandeur and an assumption was made about the end date?

Hi,

Hauenschild submitted his sixth aerial victory claim a few days before he was shot down and killed on 10 September 1943. Details can be found in Morten and my Fw 190 in the Battle for Sicily book
