Re: 7/KG3 loss 27.5.40

Hi Chris thank you for providing the first names of Weiss and Ortmeier.

All the publications appear to show 9/KG3 along with the credit you've given from Matti, however I have the flugbuch for the pilot, Oblt.Karl-Heinz Guttmann
who apparently was with 7/KG3 flying a/c coded 5K+*R between 23.4.40 until at least 11.7.40!
Might have been a case of 7/KG3 pilot and his a/c loaned to 9/KG3 to make up numbers owing to heavy losses?

Just out of interest I have a later loss for Uffz.Gerhard Weiss dated 5.8.40 when he and his crew were killed in a flying accident nr. Schweinfurt. Weiss is listed as Bordfunker with 9/KG3.
Best regs,
Steve.

Steve

I have been asked to post this:

7./KG3 Dornier Do17Z. Shot down by AA fire and fighters during sortie to Dunkirk and belly-landed at Senlecques, east of Desvres, 3.45 p.m. BF Uffz Albert Heilmeier killed, HS Flgr Joseph Staffler badly wounded, FF Oberlt Karl-Heinz Guttmann, and BO Oberlt Gustav Böker believed unhurt. Aircraft 5K+CR 100% write-off.

9./KG3 Dornier Do17Z. Shot down by fighters over Boulogne and crash-landed between St Omer and St Pol where later exploded 4.30 p.m. BF Uffz Gerhard Weiß and BM Uffz Felix Ortmeier both slightly wounded – admitted to hospital in St Pol, BO Oberlt Herbert Hoffmann and pilot believed unhurt. Aircraft 5K+DT 100% write-off

Any comments? What period does the FB cover?

Re: 7/KG3 loss 27.5.40

Morning Chris, that's fabulous information. Confirms the 7/KG3 link and also confirms the unit code 5K+CR from Guttmanns flugbuch.

Oblt.Karl-Heinz Guttmann flew previously with the Stab.stf LG1 from at least 28.9.38 as recorded in his flugbuch No.4 until transfered to 7/KG3 on 1.7.39.
His last flight in this flugbuch was on 11.7.40.

Kindest regs,
Steve.

Thanks Steve. KG 3 FBs for 1940-41 and with operational flight details are hard to find whilst KG 2 are quite common!

Re: 7/KG3 loss 27.5.40

Chris, indeed so. I don't have any for KG2 for this period so perhaps I need to look more thoroughly!
Best regs,
Steve.
