Seeking W.Nr. of W1+ of Oblt Hermann-Friedrich Joppien, Sta Kap of 1./JG51

Hello,

For the EoE Project, we've been working on the a/c color profile series for Oblt Hermann-Friedrich Joppien, Sta Kap of 1./JG51, who won the RK on 15.09.40. Stipdonk/Meyer published a photo of the tail of his a/c with 20 victory tabs in their photo book on JG51. We have another nose-to-tail photo showing "W1+" during the late summer of 1940 to work from. However, neither of these photos suggest the a/c carried a W.Nr. painted on the fin.

I've never seen any indication that the FB for Joppien still exists, but does anyone have any information that would help us come up with the W.Nr. of Joppien's Bf109E, "White 1?" It appears to be either an upgraded E-3 or an E-4, armed with cannons.

Who can help?

Regards,

Hi Larry,

I have no indication regarding where this information comes from but if you scroll down about three-quarters to the entry for Joppien, two W.Nr.s are given.

Ed,

Thanx for your help. Unfortunately, both of the cited W.Nr. are for Bf109Fs. I'm looking for the W.Nr. of his Bf109E circa mid-Septmenber 1940.

Regards,

Both of Joppien's Bf 109Fs are from the Gen.Qu. loss reports and the 'Jagdfliegeverbande' series.
