01/11/1944
Bombing Oschersleben and Halberstadt on 01/11/1944. One B-17 crashed in the area of the City of Minden in Todtenhausen, district of Amerkamp, "Torfweg/Düpenhöhe". All crew members were able to save themselves with parachutes. German report 118033
First I think it was 42-29999, because S/Sgt Arthur T. Loehrer was captured nearby the next day at 13:00 east of Todtenhausen, in the district of Wietersheim, City of Petershagen. But "Fertile Myrtle" should have crashed in Eichholz, near the City of Melle. Someone has more detailed information about it?

Re: 01/11/1944
Spurensucher,
To avoid confusion: 01/11/1944 as in the US date representation, so 11 Jan 1944 for pretty much of the rest of the world? Regards, Leendert |

Re: 01/11/1944
Eichholz or Eickholt?
In the MACR list of January 1944 (microfilm frames 118053-54 and 118110-19) is listed the crashplace Eickholt south of Melle, grid HR53. In the German crash reports the loss of the McEvoy-crew - probably near Todtenhausen - was registered under the Abschuss-Nummer/casualty-No. KU 708. Regards Leo |

Re: 01/11/1944
The Municipality of Eickholt was independent until 1972 and is today a part of the City of Melle.
The B-17 was possibly shot down by Walter Ebert, at that time Oberfeldwebel 10./JG 2, who flew his Fw 190 A-7 with the Werknummer 642.553. His attack took place in the area of the City of Minden at 11:30.
