Re: About Mr Wolfgang Dierich

Hi Larry,
no worries. He was the squadron commander of second SQ of JaboG 34. They adopted the Edelweiss in their Patch. I think he retired as an Oberstleutnant i.G. (Lt.Col. in the General Staff). A Kommodore at least back then was an Oberst.

Regards,
Norbert

Re: About Mr Wolfgang Dierich

To close it out: Wolfgang Dierich died May 7, 1998 at the age of 60 due to heart failure. He joined the Luftwaffe April 1, 1957. The Jägerblatt 2/1998 lists him as a member of JaboG 34 and JG 71. *26.06.1937 +07.05.1998.

Re: About Mr Wolfgang Dierich

Indeed. Finally resolved and put to bed. Shame he died so young. It was said 20 years ago that his next project was to be a unit history of KG 3.

...and his history of KG 51 only scratched the surface. Wonder what happened to the III/KG 51 KTB that he had?

Re: About Mr Wolfgang Dierich

Not only were Dierich's unit histories incomplete and short on detail, but his format was poor compared to later histories such as KG 54 and LG 1. But that may not be his fault but rather due to the dictates of the boss man at Motorbuch-Verlag.

I'm working on a rewrite of KG 51 history, but it is slow going.

Re: About Mr Wolfgang Dierich

Hello,

Does anyone know what happened to Mr. Dieriich's research materials for his KG3 project? If not, does anyone know whether a serious project exists to write the history of that unit, one of the few major KG units to have never had their history written?

Re: About Mr Wolfgang Dierich

Sorry if I 'm intruding ... by doing a search on the Colonel of the Luftwaffe , Fritz Herbert Dierich born August 12 , 1908. It is certainly the father of Wollfang Dierich . Can you help me find out the date of death of this Fritz Herbert Dierich ? Many thanks in advance . And sorry for my bad English . Thank you.
