P/O T L Parker KIA Unconfirmed claim 12.12.42/1130 Spitfire IX 20km N of Dieppe 331 sqn RNAF. Two losses: BS469/FN-V Capt S Sem KIA and BS389/FN-S of 2/Lt O R Malm baled out and rescued by fishing boat (Heinz Gomann inflicted the other loss, Wutz Galland destroyed Spitfire from 421 sqn RCAF in the engagement) Believe at least one of the timings of Crump or Gomann’s claims must be in error somehow (sortie went from 1238 - 1545BT 3rd and 4th claims 23.1.43/1345 and 1346 2 x Mustang Is 4-5km S of Montreuil @ low altitude (allied sources give location as Berck-Stella) 168 sqn, 34 Wing. F/O Raymond Gustave Hector de Hasse (Belgian) KIA Unconfirmed claim 31.3.43/1245 B-17F-27-BO Flying Fortress HSS Thames Estuary Legitimate victory: 41-24617/WF-J "Southern Comfort" of 364th BS, 305th BG. Crew of Capt. Hugh G Ashcraft all baled out over England but one man fell out of parachute. Crashed Wickham Bishops 8th claim 21.4.43/1217 Spitfire VC 2km S of Boismont @ low altitude EE634 of 610 "county of Chester" sqn. Sgt. Ronald Bertram McPherson KIA Unconfirmed claim 14.5.43/1330 B-17F-25-DL Flying Fortress 10km NW of Vlissingen Sternberg claimed as well. Both pilots apparently shot at 42-3115/OE- of 335th BS, 95th BG. Crashed on North Beveland Isle. Lt. James E McKinley and crew all KIA. (Actually only damaged and finished off later by Otto Bach of JG 1) Unconfirmed claim 18.5.43/1500 Spitfire 6km SE of Dieppe No known losses, date is believed to be wrong (admin error) Unconfirmed claim 16.6.43/0700 Spitfire mid-Channel 91 "Nigeria" sqn. Overclaiming, only two losses: EN627 of F/O V P R Seydel (Belgian) WIA and baled out and MB835 of Sgt. Willie Mitchell KIA (versus four claims, rightly unconfirmed) 9th claim 20.6.43/1334 Spitfire IX near Vielles les Blequin @ 7000m 403 sqn RCAF. All KIA (versus three claims in total, legitimate claim, therefore) Unconfirmed claim 22.6.43/0930 B-17 Flying Fortress 5km NW of Vlissingen 381st or 384th BG. 547th BS, 384th BG lost B-17F-25-VE 42-5853 "Salvage Queen". 545th BS of same unit lost B-17F-85-BO 42-30076. 42-3226 "Linda Mary" of 533rd BS, 381st BG, crashlanded at North Foreland (A couple of additional losses in the engagement were attributable to other pilots) 10th claim 26.6.43/1910 P-47 Thunderbolt 15-20km NW of Somme Estuary @ 300m 56th FG, four shot down into channel, 1 off English coast, 7 damaged seriously including two scrapped (including 41-6235/HV-P "Halfpint" of Lt. Known overclaim, no losses 11th claim 11.9.43/1841 Typhoon Ib near Haudramont (Quincampoix)/5-7km S of Aumale @ 3500m JP536 of 175 sqn. F/S Robin O'Hara-Murray KIA 12th claim 3.10.43/1850 Spitfire XII Near Noyon MB834 of 41 sqn. F/S James Arthur Bryce Gray KIA Unconfirmed claim 24.10.43/1230 B-26 Marauder S of Montdidier Said to have been damaged, but made it home. Please here some more info : MJ-331 F/O Robertson crashed at Pervijze , MJ-169 at Koksijde and MJ-473 at Cambron ( Brugelette ) all in Belgium. Regards Alain57 |
