Re: Verified Victories: Top JG 52 Aces Over Hungary 1944-45

Hello Gabor

GOOD BOOK,despite some really small photos.

A little question:
21/03/45
Lipfert,Yak-5 (Yak-9) Felsögalla,SW 6km (179 IAP,V.Y.Ragulin)...well ,but "Quid" of the claim of Lt.Arno Fischer (Yak-9 15h50) "raum" Mör approx distance 25/30km of Felsögalla during the same mission of Lipfert (Freien Jagd in der raum Mör) ?

Double claiming? shared? or the victim of Fischer is rather A.K.Klavdiev (897IAP Bieske E,2km by Flak ??).

Best Regards
Michel

Re: Verified Victories: Top JG 52 Aces Over Hungary 1944-45

Hi Michel,
Ragulin's pair was flying a recce. mission to Ács (Komárom-SW) near the Danube where they got into dogfight with 8 ''Fw 190s''. They turned back and managed to reach the Felsőgalla area (SE edge of Tatabánya) where he went missing. (Ml.Lt. Ragulin as well as his leader Maj. Kostikov both claimed a "Fw 190" shot down while Kostikov damaged a second one. Later another 12 "Fw 190s" joined the chase and this was fatal to Ml.Lt. Ragulin.)

The time and area match Lipfert's claim 100%. Arno Fisher's claim in the Mór area at 15:50LT is far from Lipfert's claim both in time and distance. Klavdiev was strafing the retreating German columns on the road between Csetény and Zirc in a flight of 6 Yak-9s where he was hit by small caliber Flak. He tried to get back to base but was forced to belly land at Bicske-E, 2 km and got seriously injured. He was rushed to hospital and his Yak-9M was written off. Nothing indicates that he was downed by enemy fighter(s).

As of the photos: true, but sizing the pictures was up to the publisher, not us :-)

Cheers,
Gabor

My copy arrived in the last couple of days. I agree that it is an outstanding book. The correction of myths and fallacies is as welcome as the quality of the claim by claim, engagement by engagement research.

Very well done, Gabor.

OK it just arrived; A quick 'once over lightly' has me pleased with the results.
It's going to have to take it's place in the queue==I have a couple of library books that I have to finish before end of July.

Hello Gabor,

I've received my copy today, have had the time only for a quick glance through it but looks like an excellent, well researched and organized book - can't wait to read it!

Without going into to much detail but based on your assessment, I once again feel that Gerhard Barkhorn is far too neglected as an incredibly accomplished fighter ace.
