Helmut Mertens - 20 February 1944
Hello all
On 20 February 1944, Hauptmann Helmut Mertens (54 victories, RK), Staffelkapitän of 7./JG 3, was shot down and badly wounded in aerial combat after claiming a B-24 four-engined bomber. He bailed out but never returned to combat duty. Would anyone have the usual loss list information for the fighter that he was flying that day? Horrido! Leo

Leo, all I have is Bf109G6 wn 161358 with location of Andernach,

Mertens rammed a B-24 in air combat and the markings on his 109 were white 1 + I. best regards, Tomi
