Re: JG 52 victories
After post# 117 I saw something to check on Gennadin Novikov. I looked at the records for 82 GBAP but what I was looking for didn’t go to that date. I then checked the 1 GBAD and sure enough I found him there but a 2nd Pe-2 it wasn’t possible to read the pilot’s name. So off I went to the OBD Memorial and found Novikov listed as MIA but later returned.
15 April 1944 The Pe-2s of the 82 GBAP made a bomber attack on a German tank column at 7 km west of Tyrgu-Frumos. They were attacked by Bf 109s and had 2 Pe-2 shot down. Pe-2 82 GBAP Gds. Lt. Gennadin Novikov escaped by parachute after being wounded. Pe-2 82 GBAP Gds. Lt. Aleksandr Shkuro and crew listed at MIA. From Tony Woods list there is two possibilities but if Prien’s next volume has any additional victors for that time, I will revisit this post for corrections. Re: JG 52 victories
Stalingrad Campaign 28 August 1942
Pe-2 (24/16) 797 BAP flown by Politruk Efim Ruzaev took off at 17:35 (M) for a reconnaissance to Kletskaya. On returning to base 2 Bf 109 attack Ruzaev’s Pe-2 in the area of Pryamaya Balka at an altitude of 4500 m from a distance of 400 m (Operational Report of 270 BAD). The crew escaped by parachute to the southeast of Pryamaya Balka. Two of the crew are found wounded by a Soviet Tank unit and sent to the Hospital at Gornaya Proleyka. Ruzaev is believed to have died on hitting the ground (the OBD Memorial has him listed as MIA on the 31 August 1942 for some unknown reason). Lt. Otto Leicher 4/JG 52 Pe-2 (21) 17:55 PlQu. 40873 at 2500 m (It appears that Leicher must have followed it down to the altitude claimed. This would be 16:55 Moscow Time) |
