MAAF intercepts Me 210/410 over Porto san Giorgio
Does anyone have any MAAF reports of intercepting a Me 210/410 in the area of Porto san Giorgio, Italy, forcing it down at Fermo airfield? The date was between mid-May 1944 and late June 1944.
Thanks for anything you can provide. George |

Re: MAAF intercepts Me 210/410 over Porto san Giorgio
Hi George,
From Air War Italy 1944-45 Page 36 "Order of Battle" as of 31st May has 2(F)122 - 7(3) Me410A-1. page 60 "ANR Order of Battle" includs Luftwaffe units too. 2(F)/122had 3 Me410A-3/B-3 a/c on 30th June. Page 56 has- The Gruppe's a/c operating in pairs down the Adriatic Coast had numerous encounters with the Spitfire VIII's of 241 Sqn during July, usually but not always coming off worse. On Page 44 - 6th June mention is made of F6+QK which apparently suffered an accident. Page 46 has - 11th June F6+KK Neumann & Meister damaged in a crash landing at Forli both safe. Page 47 has- 13th June F6+FK returned shot up and crashed in flames, neither crew flew again for ten days. On page 48 there are two a/c noted. F6+EK that was in combat with the USAAF 350FG landing at Bergamo badly damaged crew safe and F6+CK that was in combatwith 242Sqn RAF this a/c bellylanded, it was a month before the a/c was again airworthy. Details from book include a/c codes F6+BK a Ju88D-1 Fi 156 F6+SK Ju88 F6+ZK Me410 F6+BK F6+RK - Me410 F6+HK - Me410 F6+HM - Ju188 F6+BM - Ju188 F6+BP - Ju188 F6+FK - Me410 F6+MK - Me410B-3 Alex Last edited by Alex Smart; 8th January 2008 at 16:02. |

Re: MAAF intercepts Me 210/410 over Porto san Giorgio
Thank you for that, Alex. That's a great deal of new info on the Me 410, that I don't remember seeing before.
I tried to keep my request for info short. Obviously it was too short. This a/c was a defecting RHAF Me 210Ca. I have a one page Crashed a/c report on it dated 5 July 1944, as I recall. It mentions that the locals said it was shot up over Porto san Giorgio, force landed at Fermo, and the crew was taken by the Germans, and the pilot eventually executed by the Hungarians (from a thread on the German side of this site). Since it was an MAAF report I thought that MAAF a/c had intercepted this a/c, and I simply wanted more info on who might have done it. |
