The text in the pdf more than infers that the 109 strafed the crew after they had exited the aircraft. Whether they were in a dinghy or individually in the water who knows:

"After leaving the plane the survivors were strafed by one ME-109 until the bastard expended all of his ammunition"

This would also seem to suggest that the 109 may have made more than one strafing run.

If true it's fairly callous behaviour at best.

A little on Richard E Teeple (R. E. Teeple) who was also on the 5 June 43 flight. He was killed in Greece 25 April, 1944.

It does give a little more info on the June incident. In particular, see the write up for his DFC toward the end of the link.

Re: B-25 loss 5th June,1943

Hello to you all,

Many thanks for the corrections and updates on the action and claim etc.

From the original report the language used suggests that the enemies action ( whoever he was ?) was not acceptable.

Many thanks to you all
Alex
