FW190A-9 production?
If this has been discussed, i apoligize. I cannot come up with anything that gives production numbers or verifies more than one mention of the A-9. Ive seen online 600-910 for numbers produced, but out of 4 books i can only get one that it was produced starting in '44. the others mention it and variants, but no pics or wording i would call definative to verify with the one book that says it was in production. granted, 2 are Squadron signals, 1 is the Nowarra book and the last is Aero Detail 6.
Its frustrating as an amatuer aviation historian to miss this kind of info, and just cant get every book out there....

Re: FW190A-9 production?
Peter Rodeike's 1998 book, Focke Wulf Jagdflugzeug Fw 190A Fw 190 "Dora" Ta 152H lists the following quantities of assigned serials for Fw 190A-9 production:
Focke Wulf, Cottbus: six batches totalling 660 aircraft Focke Wulf, Aslau: 30 aircraft Unknown manufacturer: 10 aircraft Mimetall, Erfurt: 90 aircraft Norddeutsche Dornier, Wismar: three batches totalling 120 aircraft The book lists the first batch (Mimetall) beginning in August 1944, and the last (Dornier and "unknown") finishing in February 1945. The bulk of A-9 production were the Fw Cottbus batches between September 1944 and January 1945. This is a total of 910 machines. No way to know if they were all actually built of course (I would guess it is unlikely). Better research may have surfaced since this book was published, but--also being a newbie here--I am not personally aware of it. FWIW, perhaps the best-photographed of all A-9's is the well-known "Red 22" of II./JG301. It was one of the rare Fw Aslau-built batch. |

Re: FW190A-9 production?
Hi
I do not have the production numbers of FW 190A-9 in September, October and November of 1944, but the following are the numbers for the given subsequent months, have also included the totals for the three mentioned months: September 1944: 851 FW 190A of all subtypes October 1944: 671 FW 190A of all subtypes November 1944: 990 FW 190A of all subtypes December 1944: 20 FW 190A-9, 103 FW 190A-9/R11 January 1945: 67 FW 190A-9, 50 FW 190A-9/R11 February 1945: 12 FW 190A-9 March 1945: 24 FW 190A-9 These are the numbers of FW 190A-9 delivered new from the industry to the Luftwaffe during these months, thus we have a minimum number of 276 aircraft delivered, and I would suspect based on the numbers for these last months that about 15% of the aircraft produced in September/October/November were A-9's, giving an additional about 375 aircraft, thus a total of about 650 aircraft of this subtype produced, which fit the number range you quote quite nicely. Re: FW190A-9 production?
The information is given in a letter from Focke-Wulf entitled:
"Kennziffer der Nachbaufirmen Fw 190" found in Bundesarchiv-Miltärarchiv reference RL 3/4139. First I did not pay a lot of attention, but then found that the first two digits given in this list matched with known W.Nr. series for Fw 190. Then a number of hitherto unknown production series could then be allocated to the correct factory. The letter contains this information for the entire Fw 190 production series. |

Re: FW190A-9 production?
Hi all
I am trying to work out if this Fw190 A-9 Nr 980574 was ever produced as one of the 120 with Norddeutsche Dornierwork? were those from NDW produced in late 1944? A very long shot is it recorded either as a lost or on an airfield at the end of WWII. regards MS |
