Losses of I/JG 52 28 Aug 1944
I have a question on the possible losses for I/JG 52 on the 28 Aug 44. In the area of Bardo - Huta Nowa, Poland Hptm. Adolf Borchers of Stab I/JG 52, Lt. Anton Resch and Franz Schall had a dogfight with four Yak-9 and six Il-2 from 12:29 -12:51 (Berlin). The Soviet pilots claimed a Fw 190 and a Bf 109. I know that JG 52 was a Bf 109 unit but not sure if any SG unit was involved with them.

Re: Losses of I/JG 52 28 Aug 1944
The Luftwaffe losses summary database show no lost or aircraft damaged for JG 52 on 28 August 1944.
Here are the SG losses in the database: II./S.G.3: 1 missing Due to enemy action III./S.G.3: 1 damaged without enemy action on operational flight III./S.G.4: 1 missing Due to enemy action I./S.G.5: 1 destroyed by anti-aircraft artillery during operational flight II./S.G.10: 1 damaged without enemy action on operational flight I did not check if any of these units was operating in the right area. |

Thank you Laurent for the answer. I will pass this information on to my Russian friend. He was trying to obtain the full story for a person looking for what happen to his uncle. Borchers shot down his Yak-9D from the 122 IAP near Huta Nowa and he was listed in Soviet records as KIA. The relative found out recently that he became a POW and was later executed in Germany on not joining Vlasov's Army.

Hi,
On this day II. and III./S.G. 3 and III./S.G. 4 were operating in the Baltic area, as was I./S.G. 5, and II./S.G. 10 was operating north-east of Warsaw. Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.airwarpublications.com/earticles |
