Oberst Josef Kammhuber's Ju 88 A-1
Gents,
On June 3, 1940, Oberst Josef Kammhuber, Geschwaderkommodore of KG 51, was forced to make an emergency landing of his Ju 88 A-1 aircraft “9K+AA” at Cocherel, France following damage from French fighter attacks and anti-aircraft fire, whereupon he was captured and became a POW. My question is, do we know the werknummer of this machine? Many thanks, David

Re: Oberst Josef Kammhuber's Ju 88 A-1
The WNr.088 0322 could not be correct, because that plane was manufactured during July 1940.

According to Peter Cornwell, it was not recorded. I was in touch with one of the crew but apart from +AA, that is all he knew

Around 14.00 an airplane is shot down a Cocherel (Ju.88 A.1 serial no.88 322) 9K+AA Oberst Josef Kammhuber (prisoner) Lt Horst Kroesch (prisoner Lt Werner Luderitz (prisoner Ufzz Karl Schneider (wounded and prisoner) Shared between S/Lt Salva(GC I/3) and S/Lt Thollon(GC I/8) Difficult to make more precise, also it seems that it's well the 88 322 michel |

Quote:
Source: Own interpolation of RLM GL Production Plans, Reports of Panes assembled per month, actual deliveries, Serial Parts plates (found), Test Pilots Logbook (first flight) entries, and finding an formula to puzzle this all together. But I too think W.Nr. can be "inpricise" (not 0880322 ) but 88.322 be number from Component Part plate (A-1 Querruder, Links, Stoffbespannt) Ed |
