Ju-87-C
Good evening !
Was Ju-87 C only a single model of the "Träger" variant or were more of this wing-folding variants produced and went probably operative with St.G 168(T) on May 10, 1940 ? Thanks ! Horst Weber |

Re: Ju-87-C
According to Squadron/Signal Aircraft in Action #73, there were 2 converted from early Ju87B's in April 1939, and 10 pre-production examples built in mid 1939.
These were issued to 4./Traegergruppe 186 for evaluation and may have seen action in Poland. 170 were subsequently ordered, but "only a few production Ju-87C-1's (based on the Ju-87B-2) had been completed before ..... cancellation of the order ..... in 1940" Cheers Peter |

Re: Ju-87-C
Jerry,
Stig and Gizmo replies in that thread cast some doubt on the accuracy of those designations. I have never seen any evidence of A-3 or B-6, C-2/C-3/C-4 or H-6 versions. Can anyone provide the source for the list provided by Barkas? Any update as to its accuracy? Cheers Peter |

Re: Ju-87-C
Hi
Barkas quotes his source in his '03 march' reply in the thread i have little knowledge, but he seems to be quoting a wartime luftwaffe record/diary cheers jerry https://www.bundesarchiv.de/bundesar.../index.html.en http://www.lwag.org/reference/rl2iii.PDF |

Re: Ju-87-C
hmmmm. Interesting. I wasn't sure what he was referring to in his post - I guessed either a book or records.
Thanks |

Re: Ju-87-C
After three prototypes some ten Ju 87C were build during the second half of 1940. These were tested at Travemünde and during 1941/42 a few were later given to training units or used for glider by LLG 1.
None of these saw service with TGr 186. The curious designations of the Stukas for the D-day losses from Einsatzstaffel/SG 103 were most probably the fuselage codes and not subversions. The lost aircraft were according to their production numbers D-1 and D-3 versions.

Thank you very much for the information. So I see that there were no Träger-modified Ju-87 among the Stuka's of I./(St)186(T) in the first days of Battle of France in 1940. Best wishes ! Horst Weber |

Re: Ju-87-C
The Junkers Ju 87C-1 carrier aircraft was built in five examples only. None were available in the spring of 1940. The low priority of the completion of the carrier "Graf Zeppelin" at his time, caused the delay of the production of this aircraft and it was also cut back in numbers to only five. In a weekly report from E-Stelle Travemünde for January 1941, it is mentioned that the first Ju 87C had been taken over from Junkers on 22. January and was expected to arrive in Travemünde at the end of the month. In a monthly report from Junkers Flugzeugvertrieb for April 1941, it is mentioned that W.Nr. 0569 was delivered to BAL (Bauaufsicht der Luftwaffe) on 5. April 1941 and W.Nr. 0572 on 16. April 1941. At this time only one aircraft remained to be delivered. This was delivered as late as July 1941. Unfortunately, I do not have the W.Nr. on this one, but it was probably 573. The two prototypes used by E-Stelle Travemünde from 1939 was Ju 87V-10 W.Nr. 4928 (D-IHJH/TK+HD) and Ju 87V-11W.Nr. 4929 (D-ILGM), both with Jumo 211A engines. The Ju 87V.-11 was later re-engined with Jumo 211D. D-IHJH is also quoted by E-Stelle Tracvemünde as D-IHFH.
In a weekly report for the period 2. to 8. August 1941, E-Stelle Travemünde reports that Ju 87C-1 W.Nr. 569 (GD+FB) was under testing but that W.Nr. 573 had not yet been taken over. Any Ju 87 aircraft serving with Tr.Gruppe 186, were normal production machines. Last edited by Seaplanes; 19th July 2017 at 18:16. |
