Re: "Graue 9" of 8./JG 26

Interesting comment udf_000

3+1 = 4. Staffel?
5+3 = 8. Staffel ?

Does this 5+3 effect (I didn't say you're wrong) has something to do with domino position on fairing and related fairing rivets position .. for that particular machine?

Re: "Graue 9" of 8./JG 26

Franck,

The initial discussion on the foreseeable "Grey 8" drifted somewhat to my favourite subject, the emblems. I will try to make a point-wise reply to your posts quoting the respective post number.

No.8: I don't think that it is necessary to talk in terms of provocation here. Michael Meyer is a renown Luftwaffe author, and perhaps his understanding of the numeral colour in this particular case evolved over time. It would be nice to hear from him on this (unexpected) colour of grey.

When I mentioned the primer colour (i.e., grey), I was referring to the aircraft identification numeral emblem, not the emblem colour.

No.10: This anomaly was described in the Emblems of Jagdwaffe - A More Complete History: "This is a rare variant of the emblem as seen on the Bf 109 E-1/E-3 "Red 13" in October 1939. Note that the commonly found domino cube numbering was (3 + 1). The numbering (5 + 3) found on this red-and-white variation might have been used to denote the eight Staffel. The latter cube numbering, however, was apparently an exceptional feature. "

Needless to say, it is either the numeral 13 or the Adamson emblem, which most likely was not coloured red. But which one exactly, that is hard to tell.

No.12: I would say another 5+3, with some dots being obliterated.

Regards,
Sinisa
