"Condor Legion" Lt Ulrich Knauth KG4
Found this on another site about Lt Ulrich Knauth KG4 , has anybody got more details on him or can access the images as I can not.
http://militaria-fundforum.de http://militaria-fundforum.de/showthread.php?t=241557 Have used Google translate on a few bits. The comprehensive documentation consists of the following things: 1 Portrait photo 17x23,5cm 1 review Write a note Proposal: Group commander 1 pilot's license for private pilots from 1957 1 release certificate from 1949 from captivity 1 report on the plane crash with He111 1 letter Legion Condor 1 group photo training 1 Season's Greetings for Christmas 1942 1 poem of the season to your boss 154 'letters and postcards Poland, Germany France, Russia, with detailed reports on the inserts. Of the 154 letters are 21 of the Spanish Civil War I'm interested in the " release certificate from 1949 from captivity " How did Knauth become a POW in Spain ? I'm aware POW's in the UK did not return home for a few years after the war , but was Spain more sympathetic to German POW's and why 4 years after he obviously helped General Franco. I have a DoD as 1974 in Madrid. |

Might I suggest he was prisoner of the Soviets?

This is what I've found on internet search , release certificate from 1949 could be from the Soviets. Unfortunately you have to be a full member on that site to access the full size images |

Re: "Condor Legion" Lt Ulrich Knauth KG4
Gentlemen,
Major Ulrich Knauth of the Luftwaffe was surely highly decorated all right according to what I saw in one of the photos above. From what I could say is that Knauth had worked hard in Spanish Civil Aviation greatly under Franco after WWII. He was also a pilot flying in one of the Spanish private planes. I sure that Franco had given Knauth some Spanish awards for Knauth's works in shaping up Spain's aviation. Sincerely, Edward L. Hsiao |
