Wildcat by Barrett Tillman

How many pages are devoted to the Martlet/Wildcat in FAA service?

Thanks.

Re: Wildcat by Barrett Tillman

Hiya Bruce,

My copy is printed in 1990. Only Ch.9 (pp.154-172) is on the RN Martlet/Wildcats. It covers the various different purchases-specifications which eventually entered service with the RN-FAA. Operationally it covers the Ju88 shot down over the Orkneys in 1940, Martlets in the Mediterranean/North Africa, HMS Audacity vs Condors, with HMS Illustrious at Madagascar; scoring against a H6K in the Indian Ocean, brief mention of Pedastal, Operation Torch, Sicily, Bay of Biscay, Russian Convoy coverage off Norway.

The rest of the book is basically USN in the Pacific, except for Ch.8 (pp.139-153) covering USN during Torch landings and with the CVEs against U-Boats in Bay of Biscay.

Chapter List:
1. Setting the Stage (p1)
2. Rehearsal (p9)
3. To War {Wake Island, etc} (p18)
4. Coral Sea and Midway (p33)
5. Guadalcanal (p70)
6. Eastern Solomons and Santa Cruz (p102)
7. Song of the Solomons (p121)
8. Other Enemies (p139)
9. Martlets (p154)
10. Wilder Wildcats {FM-2} (p173)
A. Surviving Wildcats (p189)
B. Wildcat Variants (p191)
C. Wildcat Production (p193)
D. Wildcat Aces (p195)
E. Other American Naval Aircraft (p199)
F. Japanese Naval Aircraft (p201)
G. Other Aircraft (p203)
H. Squadron Designations (p205)

Thanks Geoff, couldn't have asked for a more comprehensive answer.

Cheers,
