Ju 188 KG200 and KG26

Hi,

I'm looking for photos of Ju 188s of KG200 and KG26. The only KG200 pics I know are very low quality or very small, and it's hard to determine any markings or camouflage patterns.

As for KG26, I'm specifically looking for any information on 1H+GT. There seems to be a lot of confusion on the story behind this aircraft as well as its markings and equipment. Was it an A-2 or A-3, did it have the FuG 200 installed? How did it get to the UK, as a testbed or by defection? I only know one clear photo, showing 1H+GT in RAF markings.
However, there are apparently more photos in 'War Prizes' and I have also seen a picture in the AJ Press book that supposedly shows the aircraft with full FuG200 installation, but no codes are visible.

Can anyone provide more info on the aircrafts operations in the last weeks of the war and how it made its way to England? I’m especially grateful for any additional photos, both from KG200 and KG26.

For KG 200 pictures in general, seek out “KG 200, The Luftwaffe’s Most Secret Unit” by Geoffrey J. Thomas and Barry Kettle (Hikoki Books). Also, using the search facility on this site should bring you A3+MD, a Ju 188 that served with 4./KG 200 plus (from memory) one other.

Dr. Günther W. Gellermann published a photo of another 4. Staffel Ju 188 about 30 years ago but unit markings are not visible. It does have a black underside though. An intelligence report on A3+QD (crashed in Holland, January 1945) suggests entirely conventional bomber camouflage.

There’s a list of 4./KG 200 Ju 188 Werk Nummern and markings here: http://ghostbombers.com/Olga/olga_loss.html

I have a number of photos of Ju 188s captured at the end of the war in Norway and quite a number of 1H+AT after its defection

Re: Ju 188 KG200 and KG26

Nick, thanks, the book is already on order! I'm making my way through the 500 posts with '188' somewhere in it, but photos are still very scarce or no longer online.

Chris, are those photos published somewhere? Apart from the 'mainstream' photos of KG26 online, I've found it quite hard to find anything.

Thank you

Also, how about the few pictures showing Ju-188s in standard camouflage in Linz, Austria in 1945? Are those by any chance connected to KG200 in Linz/Hörsching at that time?

Happily I saved copies for reference (I make no claims of ownership).

By the way, one reason for the scarcity of KG 200 Ju 188 photos is that they never had that many of them in the first place.

Nick, thanks a lot, those are exactly what I've been looking for. I guess that's as good as it gets for KG200.

Chris, thanks you, I think I actually have Sea Eagles somewhere and I'll pick up the flypast issue. Regarding the photo you posted, that is the one I was refering to also found in the AJ Press book.

One other thing, does anyone have more than the one slide showing Ju 188Ds at Kassel 1945 in colour still saved? The ebay auction is long offline.
