Re: Stab/NJG 4 losses on 19 December 1944

Hi David,

Specht was the only crew member wounded (by cannon shell splinters from an account by Krause himself, as published in Theo B's last book)

If Krause's FB is correct, Specht was flying again by the 8/3/45, and, as well as a flight on 10/3/45, another two tests of Kiel-Z was made on the 13th (as I know you can testify, David, Krause's FB is a bit of a mess for the late-war period beause he has entered flight details well out of sequence, sometimes a month after the fact, so it pays to look through all the entries!).

Therefore, if the crew were hospitalised on 10/3/45 then it must have been for very minor reasons.

Cheers

Rod

Thanks Rod,

I presume you mean Theo's book 'Battles with the Nachtjagd', i'll take a look and in the meantime i'll check what records i have for the identity of the Mosquito involved.

Thanks again, David.

Re: Stab/NJG 4 losses on 19 December 1944

David,
Thanks for the information about his early flying and solo! Very nice indeed. It seems he flew alongside with Schnaufer at Schleissheim´s Schule; this is why when requested by Heinz, to assume the I Gruppe he did not say NO, although, as he put on his words, he would have liked to stay with NJG 101.
This thread is becoming very interesting and I am learning quite a lot!
Thanks again
Adriano

Re: Stab/NJG 4 losses on 19 December 1944

Couldn't the loss I mentioned on 19.12.1944 (Ofw. Otto Reuter) not be a crewmember from Hptm. Krause's crew?

cheers,

John.

Hello John,
Regarding 19.12.1944, I think NO. He said he baled out with his traditional crew Zinn, etc...They all landed very close and no one was injured in the process. He took off on the 3rd Wave. From your information, I guess the other aircraft lost was on an earlier wave.
Cheers
Will keep in touch however...

David, thanks. I think I am doing too much mess here at the moment, so if you do not mind, I will return to you later.

Re: Stab/NJG 4 losses on 19 December 1944

During the Operation GISELA, 68 Squadron scrambled a total of 9 Mosquitos, of which only two crews were successfull:
1- F/L R B Miles and F/O R H Hobdey claimed a Ju 188
2- F/L B Wills, DFC and F/O F J Goodwin also claimed a Ju 188
I do not know if the other 7 crews reported any contact. Perhaps there was an inconclusive clash - that we are looking for involving Krause´s crew?
