The Ki27 in 1944?
Were any Ki27 based in the Phillipines in 1944. My reading indicates they were used as defence fighters in Manchukuo and in the Japanese homelands. I assume identification of these in the Phillipines might be Aichi D3a or Mitsubishi Ki-51?

Re: The Ki27 in 1944?
The incident I am interested in was a raid by VF-8 on San Marcelino A/F, Luzon 21 September 1944. I believe that the "Nates" and "Vals" claimed shot down on this date were most probably "Sonias" of an as yet unidentified unit. The VF-8 tally that day included aircraft of the IJN but would both IJN and IJA air units share the same field? It could be the Vals, Nates, Sonias were in fact Tachikawa Ki-55 advanced trainers? If so was San Marcelino a training field?
Apparently VF-8 shot down over twenty aircraft on this date. |
