Messerschmitt Me 410 Nottinghamshire 1945
My friend was going through some old letters for the RAF memorial dedication on Sunday and came across one from a Ken Buchanan who was station at RAF Balderton between January and April 1945. He says he could remember a Me 410 being shot down near the airfield and a Queen Mary being sent to collect it. I've tried the usual places but can't find anything except the Ju88 at Scampton for this area Notts/Lincs/Rutland boarders. The only one I can think of is 1426 Enemy Aircraft Flight TF209 at RAF Collyweston some 35 miles down the Great North Road then. Whether this was moved by road during this time period and the writer got his wires crossed I'm not sure. Ken has long since passed so if anyone can shed some light on this.

No Me 410s were lost over UK after April 1944-probably confused with the Ju 88 at Welton on 4 Mar 45
