Thank you for posting this. Perhaps it will answer the question: Why were heavy anti-aircraft guns posted there? To defend the IG Farben Buna Werke?

Hi Ed

Yes. This is exactly this reason. The heavy batteries was to the defend the IG Farben ? At the end of january 1945 Ig Farben was defended by 156 heavy guns grouped in 24 batteries. Germans had plans development of defense. The date end this development it was 31.03.1945. At this time should be around IG Farben 198 heavy guns.

Thank you Janusz. I will get this book for further research. This particular Buna plant produced no synthetic rubber during the war, and was a joint Army-Luftwaffe-SS project. IG Farben was the largest chemical cartel in the world at the time. It produced synthetic fuel (Leuna-Benzin) and lubricants, and had built other synthetic rubber plants. By the end of the war, most Wehrmacht vehicles had synthetic rubber tires. But IG Farben is virtually unknown today.

As part of the march plan. H. Goering from June 23, 1941, assumed that production in Oświęcim will amount to 600,000 tonnes, including 400,000 tonnes of fuels and 200,000 tonnes of oils. The effectiveness of the airstrikes carried out in 1944 was very much for the Third Reich severe. While in April 1944, 175 100 tons of fuels were produced, their production completely collapsed in the following months. In September 1944, only 5000 tonnes were produced.
