Identification of crash and pilot in command
Please help identify the crash and everything known about the pilot in command kia.
A friend asked me to post the information here in order to shed more light into the deadly crash. All that is known about his killed relative is written on the back of a picture which I will post here. The picture shows pilot Rudi Sachs in a treining plane, Arado. The back says: "Rudi did not return from a mission to England (London) on 18.12.1943. He was killed at age 24."Additional information suggests he was a bomber pilot and possibly living/born in Hamburg. Is there any information out there about the pilot or the crash? Re: Identification of crash and pilot in command
The target was London with the alternative of Brighton. 5 aircraft were tasked and just one reported bombing London at 2228 hrs and one bombed Brighton at 2211 hrs. There were no night fighter claims. The remaining 3 aircraft were reported missing and all must have come down in the sea

Re: Identification of crash and pilot in command
Quote:
the family name of the Bordschütze (Bs) is of cause 'Strolz' (* 13.10.1923) not Strozl - as already misspelled in the GenQu. report (23.12.43, Lfd.Nr. 10, Luftflotte 3). Please find the pictures of (Kb) Verheyen (* 6.5.1917) and (Bs) Strolz from the 'DRK Vermisstenbildliste' (= read cross MIA picture list) (Band LH, p.208) attached. Cheers, Uwe K. |

Re: Identification of crash and pilot in command
Hi Egbert, no problem, is there any chance we can use the image of Rudi Sachs on our remembrance website? Chris, old age is creeping in was working on a Leutnant the day I saw Egberts post and inadvertantly promoted Rudi!
Cheers, Melvin |
