Photo Fokker D.VII

Hello,


Currently on ebay is an unusual photo of a Fokker D.VII. It has no markings either civil or military and appears all white(?) and the persons in the photo both wear military uniforms and civil clothing. Can anyone identify why the machine is so unusually painted? Its at:

Didn't Goering have an all white one in WW1?

Correct. He flew D.VIIF D.5125/18. That one did at least have the usual crosses and a serial number and can be seen at:

It is not impossible that Göring used an all white D.VII postwar as well.

That one could easily have been striped with black bands before he took it to Denmark and later to Sweden.

In Swedish service it was again painted all white.

All speculation of course and unfortunately the photo on e-bay is too mediocre and of course without any useful information, for anyone to really tell...

I wasn't aware of the facts you outline. Interesting. So its not known whether the Swedish D.VII 937 was earlier D.5125/18 rather than another D.VII flown by Göring?

Ah, Sorry Clint

No the Swedish one was Fok F.7716/18
The serial number was actually 37. The digit 9 visible in front was a so called year digit which usually indicated the year the aircraft was built.

The actual Swedish paint has variously been described as silver or aluminium bronze. Whatever, when looking at black & white photos, it is impossible to differentiate them from basic white.

A quick search reveals that the macine with the Davidstern belonged to Ltn.d.R. Adolf Auer of Jasta 40.
