Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
Hello,
I have contradictionary reports for Ju 88 StKz GI+WY that belonged to 1./(F)33. One source states that it was a Ju 88 T-1 while another source states that it was a Ju 88 D-1 W.Nr. 1407. This Ju 88 made a belly landing in southern France in July 1944 and was coded 8H+ZH. It first had engine troubles and was subsequently followed by two Spitfires before it made a belly landing. The crew was captured. Regards Roger Gaemperle |

Re: Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
The crew was captured south of France ?? by the Feldgendarmerie ???
He made a Bellylanding 60 km of Oran North africa on 3.july 1944, he is quoted as 1409 corrected to 1407 a T-1 , the "Karte" of the plane gave 1407 GY+WY or GX+WY Ju88 T/S-1, plane seems to hv been produced in 1944 Remi |

Re: Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
Remi,
You are absolutely right. It wasn't the Feldgendarmerie ;-) I haven't checked where Oran is on the map yet and wrongly assumed it would be in France since it sounded like a French village and since the Ju 88 D-1 started from a French airfield. My mistake. GX+WY apparently was a Fw 190, so it must have been GY+WY but the second source wrongly reported it as a Ju 88 D-1. Thanks, Roger |

Re: Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
Roger and RT.
According to my sources it was originally Ju 88 D-1 0881407 (Jumo 211 J) GI+WY in August/September 1941 - then with 1.(F)/124 <code unk> 1941 - possibly 4.(F)/121 7A+MM 1942 - before conversion to Ju 88 T-1 GI+WY (BMW 801 engine No. 305680 mfd 7.4.44, and BMW 801 No. 212403 mfd 6.5.44) (It was conversion "No. 11" by DLH Staaken in late 1943 and completed by Merseburg, planned delivered to frontal unit in early 1944). Then 8H+ZH see abowe. Best regards ed |

Re: Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
Hi Ed,
Thanks a lot for that. That explains the contradictionary data I found regarding the subtype of this Ju 88. You write that the conversion was done by DLH Staaken in late 1943. But the engines were dated April/May 1944. I guess that when the engine data was recorded the engines installed in late 1943 had been replaced with new ones? Best regards Roger |

Re: Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
The correct Stkz. is CI+WY.
The aircraft was in April 1944 at Merseburg for radio-, GM 1-and finally the BAL-flights. |

Re: Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
Great stuff Roger and Ed.
Regarding the Motornummern of Ju 88 T-1 WNr. 0881407, the data I have in my Ju 88 and BMW 801 files regarding this aircraft came from Crashed Enemy Aircraft (CEA) report 244. Unless I have made a transcription error, CEA 244 says that the two engines are 305680 and 213403, not 212403. Just as appoint of interest, I list no BMW 801 Motornummern from the 212XXX series and only one other from the 213XXX series (213122) Finally, I have not previously heard of “DLH Staaken,” and would be interested if anyone knows their three-letter Hersteller code. Re: Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
THe interrogation reports on the crew say it was GI+WY, a T-1 with BMW 801 G-2 engines. The pilot said he much preferred to Ju 88 T to the Ju 188 as it was smaller, lighter and performance of the 188 fell off rapidly above 8000 metres.

Re: Ju 88 T-1 StKz GI+WY?
You can be sure, the Stkz. was CI+WY.
1388 was CI+WF 1391 was CI+WI 1394 was CI+WL 1398 was CI+WP 1402 was CI+WT And last but not least confirm the FB of the Junkers pilots at Merseburg Lehmann and Kuhlmann that 1407 was the CI+WY. |
