Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)

This one will probably seem strange with the different types of Soviet fighters claimed but these are the only ones matching the time and location. There is another group following this entry.
14 Jul 1943 In the region of Dudorovsky (Ul'yanovsk) covering Soviet forces. A group of 7 Yak-7B under the leadership of Gds. St. Lt. Urusev of the 89 GIAP is attacked in this region and has all 7 fighters shot down. Among the losses are Yak-7B (# 3415345) Gds Ml. Lt. Ivan Semenovich Gaydamakin (KIA). This will have two JG 54 pilots listed among the victors. The Russian time is 17:30-1855 (M). The Soviet fighters appear to have been scattered in the dogfight.

Dranko would claim his 5th victory a Ju 87 at Dudorvskiy and his 6th a He 111 to the SE of Yagodnaya. His group didn't do so well. They lost six of the eight Yak-7B.

So Michael...
...You're telling us that 89 GIAP suffered serious losses twice in one day?
Was this a unique occurrence?

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)

The 89 GIAP had only 4 Yak-7B left at the end of the 16th which they transferred to the 1 GIAP before they went to be reorganized on the 17th. The 7 GIAD was reduced to the size of a regiment by that time.

JG 51 victories (Part 2)

Hi guys

13 April 1943

Six Yak-1 fighters of GC 3 Normandie fly a fighter sweep in the Spas-Demensk area. These are attacked by four Fw 190 fighters and three pilots are lost (Lieutenant Raymond Derville, Lieutenant André Poznanski and Aspirant Marcel Bizien).

Feldwebel Rudolf Wagner 10./JG 51 Yak-1 (7) 14:13 45 574 at 1,000 m
Oberfeldwebel Hans Pfahler 12./JG 51 Yak-1 (2) 14:15 45 543 at 2,000 m
Oberfeldwebel Hans Pfahler 12./JG 51 Yak-1 (3) 14:20 45 572 at 1,800 m
Unteroffizier Martin Schamberger 11./JG 51 Yak-1 (10) 14:25 45 522 at 3,000 m
Unteroffizier Martin Schamberger 11./JG 51 Yak-1 (11) 14:30 45 542 at 2,000 m

The French pilots claim three victories but IV./JG 51 has only one aircraft listed as suffering engine trouble and performing an emergency landing with 25% damage that day.

Horrido!

Leo

Leo, very interesting on GC 3 Normandie. Do you have any information on the death of d' Aspirant Andre Largeau on the 14 Sep 1943 from GC 3 Normandie? If so send me a PM or put it here.

Re: JG 51 victories (Part 2)

Some more infos on 13.04.43:
Equipped with the excellent Yak-1 fighter french volunteers of GC Normandie (Major J. Tulasne) suffered their first combat losses – 3 pilots were KIA (Asp. Marcel Bizien, Lt. Raymond Derville & Lt. André Poznanski) in a combat between 6 Yak-1Ms and 8 Fw.190s ( from IV./JG.51) over Spass-Demiensk 15km behind german lines- whilst flying from Polotriani-Zavod, sw. Moscow. In return pilots of GC Normandie claimed 3 Fw.190s (including 1 shared by Poznanski, Derville & Bizien) destroyed although JG.51 recorded no personnel losses, but probably overclaimed with 5 Yak-1s s/d (maybe another Yak-Regiment was involved).

All German claimants were aces and wouldn´t survive 1943: Pfahler: 30 victories MIA 10.07.43, Schamberger: 14 victories, MIA 19.06.43 and Wagner (RK): 81, MIA 11.12.43.

13/04/43 Détruit Fw 190 Yak 1M Spsas / Danemark 3 (Slt) Mahé Yves
13/04/43 Détruit Fw 190 Yak 1M Spsas/ Danemark shared (Lt) Derville Raymond, (Lt) Poznanski André and (Asp) Bizien Marcel

After this blow to morale GC Normandie was attached to 18 GIAP (Mayor Golubov), seeing more combat and morale improved despite the fact that in May low-level ground attacks had to be flown and another pilot was lost. Replacements arrived in time when the regiment was down to 10 pilots. It seems that GC Normandie was attached to 303 IAD (Gen. Zakharov) in June 1943 in preparation of the Battle for Orel.
