Tiger Moth Combat Loss 16 Jul 41
A Ju 88 of I./NJG 2 attacked what they thought was a Fairey Swordfish near Upwood at 0225hrs this night but did not claim. However, 22 EFTS reported losing Tiger Moths R4968 and R4962 to an intruder at Caxton Gibbett; anyone got any more information?

Chris
From where is your source R4968 was lost with 22 EFTS on 16 July 1941? Reason I ask is that it is listed as lost 3 April 1941 with 2 EFTS (based at Filton). Its SOC date was 16 July! There is no Form 540 yet located so..... With regard to R4962 it was indeed lost as you say. It had been TOC by 22 EFTS on 12 Jan 1941 ex 5 MU at Kemble It was flown by LAC S.J. Hassall and it seems he bailed out OK but was injured in the process. Wreck went to de Havilland the day after and it was SOC on 23 July 1941 Cheers Stig |

Re: Tiger Moth Combat Loss 16 Jul 41
Stig: Thanks for this. I got the serials from a website on Caxton Gibbett so assume there has been a 2+2=5 by the author as the Germans only attacked one "Swordfish". Stanley James Hassall it would appear
