Stab JG 77 War Diary

The latest addition to the Ghostbombers website (http://www.ghostbombers.com/updates.html) is the first instalment of an English translation of this diary (Kriegstagebuch) from late November 1943 through to the end of July 1944.

I'm currently up to 31 January 1944.

More to follow...

Re: Stab JG 77 War Diary

Most interesting, Nick.

I have just read briefly through the first entries, is it possible that the pilots name for the loss of 24.12.1943 is misread by you (I am not sure if the diary is handwritten or typed, thus the question).

Teh GenQu6Abt loss record states his name as Schwing (but it is just as likely that this is erronous...)

The full record is here:

http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...?lossid=107208

Regards,
Andreas

Re: Stab JG 77 War Diary

An Uffz Hans Schwing is buried in Italy and died on 18 March 1944, he may be this same pilot.

Nick, this is a nice addition to an outstanding site. Thank you again for your work.

More details on the Italian loss on 9 January 1944: A list of fascist casualties during the war (available at http://www.laltraverita.it/elenco_caduti_e_dispersi.htm) gives the following details

Name: Bouci (or Bonci, or Brighi) Allesandro
Rank: Ten.p
Unit: 1^Gr.Ct. ANR
Family: di Guiseppe, nato a Bologna il 20/4/1916
Fate: IN (probably means invalido = invalid, but there is no note)
Place: at Mondovi', CN

More than possible. The diary is handwritten in that near-impossible German script of the period.

Re: Stab JG 77 War Diary

The name was Alessandro Brighi, Tenente pilota of 1° Gruppo Caccia ANR.

He was the first loss of the unit. The 1^ Squadriglia "Asso di Bastoni" (Ace of Clubs) of the Gruppo was named after him.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Great work as usual, Nick
