KG100 "bridge claim"
Who can identify this destroyed bridge? It was in a wartime photo collection of a III./KG100-pilot, he claims the destruction of this bridge in the first days of August 1944 in the Avranches-Area.
I would like to know it because there are some strange informations (maybe fake) in his documents. Thanks in advance! |

Re: KG100 "bridge claim"
Try this: http://www.pontaubault.fr/Pontaubaul...if-strategique which includes this passage:
Sept divisions, soit environ 120 000 hommes et 10 000 blindés franchiront le pont de Pontaubault qui restera debout malgré les quelques bombardements de la Luftwaffe qui tentera de détruire en vain le pont.= "Seven divisions, about 120,000 and 10,000 armoured vehicles eill cross the bridge at Pontaubault, which remained standing despite some bombing by the Luftwaffe which will try in vain to destroy the bridge." III./KG 100 also attacked the bridge at Pontorson but without success. Your pilot would have had no opportunity to get ground-level photos of either bridge after the attacks because the US Army had taken the whole area. |
