Re: eBay Me109 78577? wreck

The last four digits of the WNr. are repeated on the aft fuselage.

Re: eBay Me109 78577? wreck

Correct location should be Kölleda, Thuringia close to Sömmerda, 80 km wsw from Leipzig.

Re: eBay Me109 78577? wreck

Thanks Roland,

... For the precision. I'm - I was - surprised with no reaction at all since I am sure we already talked about these photos, times ago. Hence I kept "Tolleda" ..

Best regards, Franck.

Re: eBay Me109 78577? wreck

Folks,

We discussed this machine and a set of pics from this airfield on 16 April 2014, thanks to edwest who found those pics then. Now I have a methodological doubt about Kölleda: we see a few wrecked Ju 388 L-1 with the same tall building and Flak tower above in the background as with Bg 109 G-14 W.Nr. 785778. To my understanding ,the Ju 388's were located at Merseburg. Could this set of pics show actually Magdeburg ?

Cheers
Marc

I cannot help you with the location. For the time being I relaied this question to a forum specialising on history of the Magedburg area: http://f15919.nexusboard.de/t1214f53....html#msg24551

The people from the Magdeburg forum, just excluded Magdeburg.
They suggested Kölleda as a possibility.

Re: eBay Me109 78577? wreck

What they said exactely was (translated quotes):

"For sure not Magdeburg. There were no structures like that on MD AFs."

"There were bombers in Kölleda, at least at some time. The building fits (known structures there). In the background an overburden/ spoile pile/ slag heap with another hill is visible further away. That could be the elevation just behind Lake Streit (->Streitsee) close to Kölleda. That is where the AA guns protecting the AF were situated. That should be further investigated."
