Hauptmann Heinz Bollhorn

I'm looking for any info (career, other units, etc.) on Hauptmann Heinz Bollhorn (DOB 7 September 1913, Altona), possibly 2./KG66's last Staffelkapitän.

Hptm. Bollhorn was mentioned as Vermisst/Missing in Action since April 1945 on Vermisstenbildliste LH622 of the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz - Suchdienst München. According to info I have he could have crashed in an American AAA site while attacking a pontoon bridge in the Magdeburg - Schönebeck a.d. Elbe area on the 14th of April 1945.

Questions I have:
  1. Is he still considered missing or does he have a known grave by now?
  2. Does anybody know if the following persons, who are also MIA around that time, were part of his crew:
    1. Franz Lennartz (DOB 30 August 1920, Alsdorf)
    2. Gerhard Losse (DOB 15 January 1921, Reideburg)
    3. Karl Walter Spruck (DOB 26 December 1918, Mannheim)
Thanks in advance,

Marcel

Re: Hauptmann Heinz Bollhorn

All we have on this guy is:

BOLLHORN, Heinz.
(DOB: 07.09.13 in Hildesheim).
12.41 in 3.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 123 (to 06.43).
01.04.42 promo to Hptm.
23.11.42 awarded Ehrenpokal.
13.03.43 Hptm., in 3.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 123 (to 01.05.43).
01.05.43 ordered trf to Ob.d.L. pool (Sch.Etat).

We have nothing about the other three guys, probably due to low rank.
Checking the Kracker Archive, there is nothing about Bollhorn or the others.

There was a book published about KG 6 a few years ago that you might try:

Horn, Jan. Wir flogen gen Westen: Die Chronik des Kampfgeschwaders 6 der deutschen Luftwaffe 1941-1945 (Dresden: Selbstverlag Jan Horn, 2004).

I don’t have a copy.

Good luck!

Re: Hauptmann Heinz Bollhorn

Hi Doug,

Thanks for your help. Interesting to see he had an Aufklärer background! My information so far seems to suggest that Bollhorn came to I./KG66 (very) late in 1944, so that leaves a gap of almost 1.5 years unaccounted for....

I have both volumes of Horn's KG6 unit history, but unfortunately there's nothing on Bollhorn in there either.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year,

Marcel

Re: Hauptmann Heinz Bollhorn

Just for curiosity and interest:
a) Which was the werknummer of this machine and its codes?
b) Ju 188 A or Ju 88 S?

A.
