Re: French Beute Aircraft

Going back a few postings: in the UK we have AA for Alcoholics Anonymous but also for the Automobile Association, an organisation for helping motorists. We don't normally have any trouble distinguishing between the two when they appear.

I suggest that use of L'AdlA in English speaking countries is because we think of all the words as being required as part of the title, and do not understand why not. This is despite being somewhat inconsistent regarding the initial "the", as in The Automobile Association but Alcoholics Anonymous lacks the article. However the Ministry of Defence is commonly referred to as MoD, so little words inside the title are usually (or at least often) omitted.

So is it completely normal in French practice that the "little words" are omitted?

Re: French Beute Aircraft

Hello,

Currently on ebay are a couple of photos showing captured and damaged french aircraft:

1.https://www.ebay.it/itm/393800788964...oAAOSwtCBhvPUu

2.https://www.ebay.it/itm/393800790723...wAAOSwReVhvPVq

The first appears to be a CAMS 37, though I'm not sure what variant, with a Caudron C.600 behind it?

The second photo ?

Clint

Re: French Beute Aircraft

Clint

I am lousy at identifying French CAMS flying boats.
However checking Lucien Morareau's books it seems this is either a CAMS 37E or 37.11. (Don't know the difference)
HT.76 code makes it belong to École de Pilotage
Checking the individuals in use by the unit there is a No 76 and I believe (no 100% proof) but I interpret it as the unit used the actual No number also as
a code, ie No 76 was HT.76.
Not gospel, just an indication for further confirmation.

Cheers
Stig

Re: French Beute Aircraft

Hi Stig,

Thanks for the response. It is my understabnding that the CAMS 37.11 and CAMS 37E are the same machine, with the first designation being the manufacturer's and the second the navy.

Meanwhile currently on ebay are several variants of the Potez 25 with attendant German personnel :

https://www.ebay.de/itm/165241610581...wAAOSwHXphv2cm

Also on ebay is a photo of a badly damaged Potez 585 at:

Clint

Aha, should explain why I cannot see any difference....

Must also say how irritating it is when the black s/n completely blends with the red stripe color making the last digit in the serial number
impossible to read....

Cheers

Re: French Beute Aircraft

Hi Clint,

#47 : Nice findings but for the Potez 25 n°357 we have an incident/accident at St-MArtin-les-Boulogne on 17 august 1939. At this time the Potez belonged to the Base aérienne of St-Cyr.

The caption with Bel air is the a/f of Angoulême where we had the EEP 34. But they had not Potez 25 in amongst their training a/c. Certainly a/c from another school and they stopped at Angoulême.
